History & background

Known as the 'Sacred Cat of Burma,' the Birman is surrounded by temple legend and was established as a breed in France in the early 20th century. It was nearly lost during World War II and rebuilt from just a few surviving cats.

Is a Birman right for you?

It is ideal for families and multi-pet homes wanting a calm, loving lap cat. Birmans are social and gentle, getting along well with children, other cats, and dogs.

Care & health

The silky, single-layer coat resists matting and needs only weekly brushing, with modest seasonal shedding. Provide companionship and gentle play, as Birmans enjoy being close to their people. Screen breeding lines for HCM.
